According to Association «Russkaya Stal», due to existing infrastructure restrictions and adoption of new ones, the Russian ferrous metallurgy may lose an amount that makes up two-thirds of all investments in the industry over the past five years
In the next five years, the total losses of companies working in the field of iron and steel industry, due to maintaining the existing infrastructure restrictions and adoption of new burdens, may amount to about 500 billion rubles. This is warned by association «Russkaya Stal'», which unites Russian largest steel companies — Severstal, NLMK, MMK, EvrazHolding, and others.
In the Association’s message, it is claimed that the amount of possible losses is two-thirds of all investment in the Russian steel industry over the past five years.
«These funds could be invested by metallurgists in new capacities, the best available technologies, including environmental, innovation and infrastructure projects that the country needs and which create new jobs», «Russkaya Stal'» said in the statement.
The Association reminded that its member companies provide about 4 per cent of Russia’s GDP and a significant part of the foreign exchange revenue, and create millions of jobs.
«But today, the growth and development of the entire sector, which is forced to export half of the production due to lack of demand in the country, slows down (restrained) by man-made factors — ill-conceived initiatives, which erode the industry — the basis of the economy», the document says.
September 19, Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Kozak held a meeting on the development of ferrous metallurgy, where the President of «Russkaya Stal'» and the main owner of the largest metallurgical company of Russia — Novolipetskiy Metallurgicheskiy Kombinat — Vladimir Lisin, the main owner of OMK Anatoly Sedykh, the main owner of MMK Viktor Rashnikov, the main owner of TMK Dmitriy Pumpyanskiy were present, as well as the representatives of Severstal and Metalloinvest, Mechel, ChTPZ, and PMKh.
During the meeting, metallurgists, in particular, proposed to modify the program of modernization of thermal generation, since they believe that in the current version, it assumes introduction of non-market payment in addition to the existing burdens for steelmakers to subsidize renewable energy, finance waste disposal, subsidize energy tariffs for some regions of the country.
