Hot stamping is a type of metal forming, in which forming of forgings from a blank heated to forging temperature is carried out using a special tool, a die.
Metal flow is limited with surfaces of cavities (as well as stickers) made in separate parts of the die, so that at the final moment of stamping they form a single closed cavity (groove) as per the forging configuration.
As blanks for hot stamping, rolled stock of round, square, rectangular sections is used, as well as semicontinuous. In this case, bars are cut into separate (cut-to-length) sections, although sometimes, are stamped from a bar followed by forging separation directly on the stamping machine .
